German Universities are divided into two semesters: Winter semester (October – March) and summer semester (April – September) making it a two intake country:

Education in German university is subsidized by the state and therefore state-funded institutions of higher education and hence they charge no tuition fee, thus, virtually offering every student a scholarship! Some specialized courses and courses offered by private universities can attract fees.
Semester fees will be in the range of Euro 300, depending upon the university and the services or benefits provided. For certain special courses you may need to pay higher fees.
Over and above the tuition fees, you will require approx Euro 860 per month for subsistence i.e. housing, food, clothing, study material and other expenses such as health insurance and leisure activities. There are wide range of programs available in English as well as German. These are basically of 4 year durations with 3 years of class room followed by last year of Internship and Thesis. Such courses are integrated with industrial training to kick start your career professionally by giving hand on experience while course duration.

Every University is Autonomous in Germany and it offers a 2 year program, which mainly includes subject specialization for first year followed by one year of internship in industries for hands on experience. More often than not, this is like a pre-job for the student and a path way to secure the career in the same company. You can still check the university program for more details.
Almost all university will recognize a 4 year bachelor’s Degree from India as parallel to German Bachelor’s Degree, which makes you eligible for Master’s Degree Program, but for 3 year Degree courses you have to check the university website for more details about eligibility.
Over and above some universities may ask for TOEFL/IELTS/GRE/GMAT scores based on the discipline that you choose. Students choosing German Medium of education will be require exam certification of TestDaf or DSH.
It involves identifying a supervisor at a German University who will guide your research. This system offers a lot of freedom, and calls for a great deal of personal initiative right from identifying a topic in your research field. This kind of doctorate takes about 3-5 years to complete.
These are internationally oriented, conducted largely in English and are comparable to PhD programs offered in English-speaking countries. Here supervision is carried out by several university teachers. These programs lead to a PhD in about three years.
